In my opinion, one of the biggest conflict in the book broken glass by Arthur Miller, is the fact that Sylvia afraid of Phillip. The reasons why I believe she is terrified of Phillip are that he is consistently yelling, he has physically abused her when throwing her into the staircase, and hitting her with a steak, and never seems happy to her. Phillip has also told many lies to Dr. Hyman about how things are in the Gellburg household. Instead of helping his wife, Phillip is convinced that she is faking being paralyzed, and is trying to catch her in a paranoid manner. Sylvia has ever right to be afraid of Phillip due to current behavior. Phillip and Sylvia'a marriage was one that most couples prey to never get into, and results in the death of Phillip Gellburg.
